Sunday Sheep Ponderings – November 29, 2015

Pondering today on being FULL.

FULL is defined as “containing or holding as much or as many as possible; having NO EMPTY SPACE”. After 3 days straight of Thanksgiving celebrations, my stomach has NO EMPTY SPACE! But that’s not the “fullness” I’m thinking of. Let’s start with what I used to think about “fullness”. I grew up in a traditional denominational church, then a pentecostal charismatic church and finally a non-denominational mega church. A similar belief about “fullness” ran through all of them…It was based around the mindset that God comes and goes, He sends His presence and therefore He must also remove His presence. So if we “feel” Him, He is there and if we don’t, we need to try harder, worship more passionately, study more diligently, and pray harder. While well meaning, this teaching led me to 40 years on a hamster wheel of continual striving to please God, to get closer to God, to be more like God…to be a “better” Christian. Sometimes I felt full but most of the time I felt an emptiness. It was never enough.

But didn’t Jesus say that if we ate the food that He brings, we would NOT be hungry? And didn’t He also say that He has given us EVERYTHING we need for life and godliness? And didn’t He say that He lives IN us? And didn’t He promise to NEVER leave us?
If someone deposits a million dollars in your bank account but you don’t know they did it, are you still rich??? YES, you are! If I give you a beautiful present but you don’t open it, is it still yours??? YES, it is!

If Jesus came to give you life and not just life but life to the FULL but you don’t know it, is it still true? YES, it is!

You see the truth isn’t dependent upon you realizing it, accepting it or understanding it…it has been and always will be true, regardless of you.

What is your point Wendy?
I’m telling you the money is in your account! I’m asking you to see what’s inside the gift! I’m sharing the truth that FULLNESS…is ALREADY yours! God Himself lives in you! NO EMPTY SPACE! It’s true, even if you don’t know it or feel it. Ponder on it and enjoy the rest that comes with it!

  2. Thanks for sharing this I felt like you were describing my upbringing in the church. I’m so happy to know that being full has nothing to do with feelings. I feel like it took forever for me to understand this but I’m glad I get it now. Great post thanks for sharing. God bless you!
